Deserted Island Music news

June 2026

Hi there,

We have added a couple of titles to our webshop from and related to Edith Alonso. You can also listen to a great radio show with interview around her "Momento" album release on Spanish national radio.
Then, also a video from the REMY & Däcker session from April 10th has been published, and can be watched for free.

In the meanwhile the countdown started for the book presentation of "65 Jaar Popmuziek in en uit Velsen", as well as my next solo performance in Germany.
And last but not least, another bunch of reviews came in last month.

 Musical greetings,

Remy Stroomer

New releases

Two brand new releases are available now!

Edith Alonso - Momento 0.0
We are proud to present a new artist under the wings of Deserted Island Music:

Edith Alonso is a composer from Madrid. She began composing electroacoustic music when she discovered the concrète music and met composers such as François Bayle and Pierre Henry in Paris. She explores sounds in many processes always in an innovative way and changing of set frequently (electric prepared bass, analog & digital synths, laptop, circuitbending). Interested in sound physical transformation and how they change our perception of reality. Every sound holds within it a world to be discovered.

“Momento 0.0” is inspired by the ephemeral moment in which life occurs and its transitory nature.
Besides, this work emphasizes the relationship between the inorganic and the
organic nature of the origin of the matter.
“Moment 0.0” invites us to travel to a new universe through its origin,
discovery, chaos, union, destruction and its hopeful ending.
Furthermore, “Momento 0.0” explores how nature and bodies are interwoven,
crossed by connections and at the same time, bursting into pieces.
Deep and hurtful sounds interact, showing us the confrontation between life and death.

"Momento 0.0" is available on CD and as digital download now!

REMY & Däcker - Yvelines
The second collaboration of REMY & Däcker sees the light on April 10th.

"Yvelines" by REMY & Däcker might be a rather different experience than the "Live at BYSS" debut album, as Peter and myself used a grand piano instead of electronics as main instrument.
No worries for all electronic nerds out there: there are also involved some synths.

This project took us 1,5 years to accomplish.
Although the mixing process, as well as the mastering by Michel Geiss, had already been finished 9 months ago, I also worked on a video (containing parts of the session and location recordings) together with David Smelik for the last couple of months. As icing on the cake, Audiochef's Misja van Waterschoot made an additional 5.1 audio mix for the video.

The complete story behind this album can be read on my blog:
https://exhibitionofdreams.blogspot.com/2026/04/yvelines.html

REMY & Däcker - "Yvelines" is available on CD and as digital download, as well as limited edition CD+Bluray.

REMY & Däcker - "Yvelines" album presentation

April 10th, "Yvelines" was released!

For the promotion of our project, there was scheduled an official album presentation. Coinciding with the album release, on April 10th, 2026.
Due to dissapointing ticket sales this physical event was cancelled.

Within the short term we had, we set up a live stream instead. A Facebook stream, to be exact.
However, Facebook only archives streams for one month.

We decided to transform Peter's living room into a musical environment, and started to improvise on the actual time of the already scheduled album presentation.

As often, our output was something we couldn't have predicted beforehand.
Resulting into output that might be in the line of the creation process of "Yvelines", but ended up to musically something completely different.
Which is actually one of the main reasons we love to make music!

As a couple of cameras were involved to capture our performance, we have now decided to make an edit involving all of these, rather than the limited single point of view we used during the stream.

Reviews

Another bunch of reviews have been published last month.

iO Pages

Paul Rijkens wrote reviews from Edith Alonso - "Momento 0.0" and REMY & Däcker - "Yvelines" for iO Pages 206 (May 2026).

Here are the English translations from the original Dutch versions.

Edith Alonso - Momento 0.0

Remy Stroomer's Dutch electronic music label, Deserted Island, releases diverse styles. Edith Alonso is a new name on the label. She is a musician from Madrid who began making electroacoustic music after meeting musique concrète composers such as Pierre Henry. She uses electronic equipment as well as an electrically prepared bass. Her album Momento 0.0 is inspired by the fleeting moment in which life unfolds and its ephemeral nature. Additionally, this work emphasizes the relationship between the inorganic and organic nature of the origin of matter. Although subtle references to other electronic musicians can sometimes be detected, I feel that on Momento 0.0 she presents a distinctly unique sound. It is a fairly full sound with many expansive tones and sometimes unusual rhythms. Partly, the music strikes me as slightly industrial, but at other moments it sounds more melodic and warmer. The atmospheric Momento 0.2 is a fine example of this. Momento 0.3 and Momento 0.4 remind me somewhat of the music of Jean Michel Jarre (who, in turn, is also a follower of musique concrète). The final piece, Momento 0.6, has a modern rhythm and appeals to me slightly less. Edith Alonso has delivered an interesting album that presents something different from what we are generally accustomed to in the genre.

REMY & Däcker - Yvelines

Remy & Däcker (Remy Stroomer and Peter Dekker) are well-known and celebrated names in the world of electronic music. With his Deserted Island label, Remy sometimes treads different paths than what we are accustomed to in this genre. This is the case, for example, with the CD Momento 0.0 by the Spanish musician Edith Alonso. It also applies to the album Yvelines. This refers to the Yvelines region, just outside Paris. For the recording of this album, Remy and Peter had a Steinberg grand piano at their disposal (not to be confused with a Steinway). Combined with a violin bow, percussion tools to manipulate the piano, and a few synthesizers, they began to experiment. The CD consists of over six hours of recorded music. A big name is involved in this CD: Michael Geiss, who has worked extensively with Jean Michel Jarre, handled the audio mastering. Parts of the sessions were filmed and are available on Blu-ray with the limited CD edition. The CD consists of three parts. It begins with La Vie à Raizeux. Calm piano strokes are supported here by atmospheric synthesizer contributions. At nearly 59 minutes, Rendez-Vous is the central piece on the CD. The piano solos here vary between soft and firmer with a harder touch. Halfway through, a calm sequence takes over. This reminds me somewhat of the music of Tangerine Dream from the mid-seventies: they also sometimes combined synths with piano. A piano solo concludes this impressive composition. Un Dernier Adieu à Rambouillet is the final piece. This is experimental, featuring alternative ways of touching the piano. This album is something entirely different from what we are used to from Remy & Däcker, but I quite like it: it is relaxing and the musicianship is excellent.

Cultuurmania

Patrick van de Wiele also wrote reviews from Edith Alonso - "Momento 0.0" and REMY & Däcker - "Yvelines" for his Cultuurmania website.

Here are the English versions - which can be found on the website, in addition to the Dutch versions.

The reviews are based on the original press information, complemented with the final verdict.

Edith Alonso - Momento 0.0

Edith Alonso is a composer, pianist, and sound artist born in Madrid. After discovering “musique concrète” and meeting composers such as François Bayle and Pierre Henry, she began composing electroacoustic music. Subsequently, she studied electroacoustic and instrumental composition in Paris. Edith obtained a PhD in Arts, Sciences, and Technology from the University of Saint-Denis-Vincennes (Paris) and the Complutense University (Madrid). At the end of her studies in electroacoustic composition, she won the SACEM Prize and received grants from the French Ministry of Research and the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. As a composer, Edith has received various awards and prizes: she won the Madrid Abierto competition in 2008, received an honorable mention at the Pauline Oliveros Prize in 2010, was nominated for the Prix Europe in 2009, and received an honorable mention at the Hablar en Arte competition in 2009. She has received composition commissions from RNE (Spanish national radio) and CDMC (Center for Contemporary Music, Spain), and has also represented Spain at TIME (UNESCO International Tribune of Electroacoustic Music).

Alonso’s compositions have been performed at numerous international festivals, including the International Computer Music Conferences in Belfast and Montreal, the XXIV Festival de Alicante de Música Contemporánea, SIMC (Paris), Synthèse (Bourges), and other festivals in Portugal, Spain, Colombia, Argentina, Germany, Sweden, South Korea, Cuba, Costa Rica, and Mexico. She has also collaborated with other media, such as film and dance, and with sound installations. Her new CD ‘Momento 0.0’ is inspired by the fleeting moment in which life unfolds and its ephemeral nature. Additionally, this work emphasizes the relationship between the inorganic and organic nature of the origin of matter. ‘Momento 0.0’ invites us to journey to a new universe, through its origin, discovery, chaos, unity, destruction, and hopeful end. Furthermore, ‘Momento 0.0’ explores how nature and bodies are interwoven, crisscrossed by connections, and simultaneously falling apart. Thus, deep and poignant sounds interact and show us the confrontation between life and death.

Edith Alonso’s electronic music album ‘Momento 0.0’ captivates the listener from the very first second with carefully chosen sounds, strong narrative themes, and an enchanting ambiance. Each chapter on this CD has its own identity, breathes with constantly moving elements, and blends diverse influences that are reminiscent, for example, of Richard Wahnfried’s ‘Trance Appeal’ and the abstract part of Jean Michel Jarre’s ‘Magnetic Fields part 1’, but also shows similarities to music by several other artists under Deserted Island Music, such as Feralia Planitia and Basic Principles.

‘Momento 0.0’ is available from April 3rd on CD and as a digital download for fans of electronic synthesizer music.

REMY & Däcker - Yvelines

Remy Stroomer (1979) has been producing his electronic music since 1999. To date, he has released 13 studio albums, performed various concerts in the Netherlands, Germany, and the United Kingdom, and collaborated with a large number of artists from the electronic music scene, including Space Art, Ron Boots, Wolfram Spyra, Gert Emmens, Francis Rimbert, Synth.nl, Moonbooter, Bas Broekhuis, and My Breath My Music. Remy is also involved with the improvisation act Mäläskä. Through his record label Deserted Island Music, he releases his own music, as well as music by Mäläska, Däcker, Space Art, Feralia Planitia, Basic Principles, Martijn Comes, and Edith Alonso.

Peter Dekker (pseudonym Däcker) (1973) owns over 70 electronic musical instruments, with which he has composed and recorded countless pieces of music. It took until 2020 for him to release ‘Pareidolia’. With this debut album, Peter won first prize in the “Discovery of 2020” category at the German Schallwelle Awards, received recognition for his music, garnered worldwide airplay and reviews, and performs both solo and with others (including Skoulaman, Mäläskä, and Steve Baltes) in the Netherlands, Germany, and the United Kingdom.

Together, they have now released a new project, and the story behind this project is connected to a number of special encounters in the Yvelines region, just outside Paris, in the summer of 2023. Two years after they began their collaboration in electronic music in 2020, which led to the performance Live At BYSS and its release, they toyed with the idea of recording a piano album. It began to take shape when they got the chance to record a beautiful Steinberg (not to be confused with Steinway) grand piano from the early 20th century. The fact that the piano had not been recently tuned gave it even more character and charm. They also decided to use synthesizers to partially process and modulate the live piano parts, and to add extra contrast and atmosphere. Additionally, they used a violin bow and percussion tools. Ultimately, it became a balanced whole, ensuring you are not just listening to a piano. What you hear on this recording is entirely based on improvisation and their state of mind during the sessions they recorded on August 5, 2024. For this reason, they chose to record for only one day, as additional days would have led to a completely different result. For this album release, excerpts have been selected and edited from the more than six hours of music they recorded. They aimed for an honest and organic representation of how everything was performed, preserving dynamics and revealing errors, misses, and even ambient sounds. The result is this listening experience that they are eager to share with you!

Three parts from the extensive recorded material were selected, and Remy mixed this audio. The legendary Michel Geiss handled the audio mastering of the project. Parts of the recording sessions were filmed by David Smelik, who also contributed to a section of the song ‘Rendez-Vous’. In early March 2025, Peter and Remy traveled to the Yvelines region again to make additional on-location video recordings. The video edit, which combines both the session and environment footage, was edited by David and Remy. Additionally, Misja van Waterschoot of Audiochef provided a 5.1 audio mix for the Blu-ray video.

Because the album’s longest improvisation, ‘Rendez-Vous’, tells a story in itself, it was decided to select this track for a Blu-ray release. Supplemented with outtakes from other recorded parts, this resulted in a ‘Behind the Scenes’ clip as bonus material on the Blu-ray.

‘Yvelines’ is available on CD and as a digital download, featuring a selection of three tracks. Additionally, there is a limited edition containing this CD and the Blu-ray, featuring ‘Rendez-Vous’ and ‘Behind the Scenes’.

The instruments used during the recording are: Steinberg grand piano, bow, brushes, sticks, keys and a glass, Korg ER-1, Korg MS-20, Sequential Circuits Prophet-5, 2x Neumann U87 (overhead), 2x Neumann U67 (room), Rupert Neve 5024 preamp, 2x Zoom L-20 (recorded at 24 bit 96 kHz).

The very quiet album is dedicated to Dominique Perrier. Perhaps something for you?

Stephan Schelle wrote a lovely review of REMY & Däcker - "Live at BYSS" for his MusikZirkus Magazine.

Below you can read the English translated version.

REMY & Däcker - Live at BYSS

REMY & Däcker - Live at BYSS

During the pandemic, Bas Broekhuis invited musicians to his BYSS music studio. Artists like Kontroll-Raum, Ron Boots, Skoulaman, and René van der Wouden took to the small stage to present their music to a large audience via live video stream. This was the only way to reach listeners during the global lockdown. Remy Stroomer (REMY) and Peter Dekker (Däcker) also had the opportunity to showcase their collaboration at BYSS.

In 2024, the album "BYSS" was released, featuring a recording of their improvised concert in Bas Broekhuis' studio. The six tracks on the album flow seamlessly into one another, creating a compact piece of music totaling just over 78 minutes.

The first part of the set consists of the 17-minute "Into The BYSS." A gentle melody, accompanied by hissing and chirping synthesizers, opens this first section. The listener is then quickly immersed in the musical realm of Klaus Schulze. This is also a style that Remy Stroomer incorporates from time to time on his albums. Atmospherically, this piece unfolds, shifting between melodic lines, harmonies, and structures. After more than five minutes, a gentle sequencer rhythm emerges, giving the piece more drive. This is complemented by another rhythm from the sequencer and the drum machine, and the dynamics are gradually increased. This creates a hypnotic atmosphere.

This then transitions seamlessly into the next track, the more than 13-minute "BYSSmuth." Here, pulsating rhythmic patterns are initially discernible, working stoically. The duo then places gentle harmonies on top, initially introduced subtly before gaining dominance around the halfway point. This continues the hypnotic mood. The dynamics are further intensified in this piece as well, and the track fades out towards the end with gentle harmonies.

The ten-minute track "Club BYSSare" takes a more rhythmic turn, kicking off with a driving sequencer beat. A simple melody is then played, creating a unique appeal. Pad textures are added, giving the piece more depth and dimension. This also evokes the music of Klaus Schulze.

Chirping, distorted synthesizers lead into the next track, "Mind Your Own BYSSness," which clocks in at 14:44 minutes. A harmonic sequence is layered on top, initially repeating before being complemented by a beautiful melody with a slightly organ-like sound, reminiscent of 70s rock. While the sequencer rhythm stoically continues its work, the piece evolves, incorporating keyboard solos and a gentle yet steady drum rhythm. Finally, a soft synthesizer voice brings the track to a melodic close.

The atmospheric, eleven-minute "BYSS Aldrin," with its stoic rhythm, and the equally eleven-minute, melodically rhythmic "BYSS! BYSS! BYSS!", which is particularly captivating due to its compelling second part, conclude the album.

"BYSS," the album by REMY and Däcker, recorded during the pandemic on December 19, 2020, at Bas Broekhuis' BYSS music studio (and subsequently streamed live online), is a wonderful improvisation by the two musicians. While reminiscent of the "Berlin School," it bears a strong personal imprint. I highly recommend this album to fans of this electronic genre, as the two protagonists complement each other beautifully. The result is a cohesive, compact, and hypnotic work.
