Skoulaman

Skoulaman is Hans van Kroonenburg (IJmuiden, 1959).
The artist name is derrived from the nickname “skoulariki” he got from Greek friends. Which refers to the “earring” he used to wear.

It started at the late 70s where Hans discovered the beauty of the music of Vangelis, Tangerine Dream, Jean Michel Jarre, Tomita, Kraftwerk and Mike Oldfield.
At that time, he read at the back of LP-albums about Moog modulairs, string synthesizers, and so much other gear. Although it was all abracadadra, it impressed him.
While all knobs, pots, gliders and flashing sequencers looked too far to access, Hans started to study how to play with his first instrument: a Solina electronic organ.
After a few months he got hands on a second hand Solina String Synthesizer. And soon more instruments and effects followed.
Hans creates his ‘old school electronic music’ from scratch. Without the use of any computer, only using synthesizers, and hardware sequencer and arpeggiator.

During his career Skoulaman performed worldwide. From a closed down powerplant and XHAP, to the E-Live and Dutch Electronic Masters (Netherlands), Electronic Circus (Germany) and Awakenings (U.K.) festivals and various Schallwelle (Germany) events, to even the Gatherings concert series in Philadelphia (U.S.A.).

Throughout the years Hans released 14 CD’s, from studio albums, live registrations, and compilations of tracks from his early works from the late 90s.
He collaborated and shared stages with his son, Harrison McKay, Stephan Withlan, Ron Boots, and there are upcoming co-ops with Däcker as well as Tectonia.
